The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in implementing replay technology.
Replay systems will be launched at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.
Competitors are granted the ability to contest certain calls made by the chair umpire, mirroring the practice currently in use at both the US Open and the Aussie major.
This technology will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.
This development follows just a season following the AELTC implemented electronic line calling, which effectively ended the longstanding tradition of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to review specific decisions, such as:
- If a ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a ball touched an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Possible hindrance end of a point.
Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the number of reviews a player can initiate.
Case in Point
An illustrative case occurred in Indian Wells recently, where a top player initiated the video challenge against Jack Draper.
The British player admitted it was a tough call for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the rally to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not exclusive to major tournaments. The system was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open this year.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system implemented at every one of its events.
Other Changes
Another change at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain if a ball was in or out.
Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have further revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
